Nice show!!

Yes, we did it again: Rain or no rain, our Annual Spring Show was a success: great trees, stones, camaraderie and food. You’d never guess that this was Chris Pfeifle’s first year as show chair! Steve and Alvin have conspired to place a zillion photos at: https://picasaweb.google.com/118385301206593801604/SpringShow2012?authuser=0&feat=directlink

On behalf of Chris and the Executive Committee, thank you to the MANY members who worked to set up on Saturday, donated food and raffle items, brought trees and stones, performed duties at the show and then tore it all down and cleaned up. It was indeed a total club effort.

Much thanks to Johnny Uchida for demonstrations on rock planting and a juniper raft forest. Congratulations to Ed Adams on winning Saturday’s demo in Saturday’s raffle – always nice to see a plum like that staying in the family. Finally, thanks to the amazing kitchen staff for preparing, presenting and clearing lunch, especially on Saturday when we did not have access to the preferred kitchen and dining areas.
President’s Corner: Logo Contest

Our Club was established 26 years ago but we are still using temporary generic membership badges. We do not have a club logo or even a club color. Since our club is in it for the long haul, let’s have a design contest for a permanent badge with a logo and a club color!

The contest is open only to club members. The logo must fit on a 3” x 2” badge (either horizontally or vertically) allowing space for a member’s name. It must use one color for the logo and a contrasting color for the background. So get busy! Put your creative spirits to work to bring our club up to the 21st Century!

Send your design to the Club President, bonsaitimm@aol.com by email or mail to 9956 Bexley Drive, Sacramento, CA 95827. Entry deadline: May 31st, 2012.

Club Officers will select the 3 most promising entries. At the June monthly meeting the 3 selections will be presented to the membership who will vote for the winner. A very nice prize will be awarded. – Timm

Our shows are like our trees: we work hard on them, get great pleasure from them, and always try to improve them. The post-show meeting will a chance to celebrate our success, acknowledge one another’s efforts, and consider how to make the show even better.

The main event of the April meeting will be Show and Tell. Timm asks everyone to bring his/her favorite bonsai. “Only have 1 bonsai?” he asks. “That’s your favorite tree. Only have 2? Surely you favor one over the other. Have multiple? You know which one you really like.”

April Executive Committee Meeting

The Executive Committee met on April 4th to review the spring show and discussed ways to be better organized next year. We also had further discussions about a club logo, badges and plans for revising to the By-Laws.

New Members

BSK welcomes new member Darin Flynn. Nice to have you back, dude!

Lost a windbreaker?

Did you leave a blue windbreaker at the show? Timm will bring it to the April meeting. (Raffle prize?)
