December 19th Meeting

For “Show and Tell” please bring trees with fall color, berries or fruit; confers; and suiseki.  The featured raffle prize will be a pomegranate tree.

Logo & Badges

Thanks again to everyone who submitted designs for our new logo, and congratulations to Beth Miller, whose logo received by far the most votes at November’s meeting.  The Executive Committee is ordering badges with the winning logo, which will also be used for letterhead, business cards and newsletter.

Bylaws: Vote will be in January

We will vote on the proposed Bylaws revisions at the January meeting.  A two-thirds vote of those present will be required for passage.  You may review the proposed revisions in the November newsletter.

Regional Bonsai Shows

Jan. 14-17 in Fresno: “Bonsai in Winter Silhouette Displayed with Contemporary Art.” 13 displays by the Fresno City College Art Department and the Fresno Bonsai Society.  At the Art Space Gallery on the Fresno City College Campus, 1101 East University Drive. Mon. & Tues. 10:00-4:00, Wed. & Thurs.10:00-7:00.  Reception 5 – 8 PM on Thursday.  Admission free. Contact Steve DaSilva at for details.

January 19-20 in Oakland: California
Bay Island Bonsai Annual Bonsai Exhibit. Oakland Lakeside Garden Center, 666 Bellevue Ave, at Lake Merritt in Oakland.  10:00-4:00 both days.  Auction on Saturday at 1:00, with preview starting at noon. Demo by Boon on Sunday at 1:00.  Guided tours. Vendor and club sales.  Entry free, donations accepted. More info:

February 23-24 in Oakland: Annual California
Mammoth Fundraiser for the GSBF Collection at Lake Merritt. Lakeside Garden Center, 666 Bellevue Ave, at Lake Merritt in Oakland.  Auction on Sat. at 1:00 PM, with preview at noon.  Scheduled Sunday events: Vendor sales 9 AM – 4 PM. Bonsai and Pre-bonsai sales 10 AM – 4 PM. Demonstrations by Kathy Shaner and team 11:30 AM – 3 PM. Raffle drawings at 1 PM, 2 PM and 3 PM. Café open both days. Info at


BONSAI SEKIYU KAI (meaning plant & stone lovers club) is a non-profit educational and social organization devoted to assisting members in developing and improving skills fundamental to the art of bonsai (miniature trees) and suiseki (viewing stones).  The club was formed in June 1976 with its first show in 1977.  As a member of the Golden State Bonsai Federation and part of the Capitol City Bonsai Association, we support Bonsai Collection North in Oakland.  Dues are $__ per year.  We meet at 7:00 PM on the 3rd Wed. of the month (except July & August) at the Sacramento Buddhist Church, 2401 Riverside Blvd., Sacramento, CA.  For more information, see the contact information in this newsletter.
